Access Credit Union announced today the decision to consolidate five branches into existing locations due to lower in-branch traffic, increased utilization of online and mobile banking, and the proximity to other Access branches. This strategic move is aimed at optimizing resources to provide better service to members and adapt to the evolving banking landscape.
Effective May 22, 2025:
- Birds Hill branch will close and consolidate with Riverbend, 2526 Main Street, Winnipeg
- Gretna branch will close and consolidate with Altona
- Lowe Farm branch will close and consolidate with Morris
- Miami branch will close and consolidate with Morden
Effective September 17, 2025:
- Lundar branch will close and consolidate with Eriksdale
"The decision to streamline the branch network was carefully considered. We understand the value of the in-branch experience and are committed to supporting members through this transition to ensure uninterrupted banking," said Larry Davey, CEO and President of Access Credit Union. "Banking habits are evolving, with more members using direct deposit and digital solutions like our mobile app, online, or by phone. We've seen a steady decline in in-branch transactions and a rise in digital adoption. For those who prefer in-branch banking, we've ensured convenient services remain accessible by considering travel distances between rural communities, for continued access to convenient services close to home."
For communities where a physical branch will no longer be present, Access will continue to support initiatives, offer programming, and community support as these communities remain an integral part of the Access network. Current branch staff will retain their employment and will have opportunities within the branch network or transition into corporate support roles. This ensures employees can continue to contribute their expertise, remaining a vital part of Access Credit Union’s ability to serve members effectively.
Members can continue to bank in-branch at 47 branch locations, with no changes to membership or account numbers. Banking services for easy accessibility include: online, mobile, or telephone banking, credit union ATMs in Manitoba (with no additional charge), online appointments with lenders or financial planners, and the Member Solutions Centre (MSC) where members can complete most day-to-day transactions.
Members will receive detailed letters about these consolidations within 120 days of the anticipated branch move. Access employees will collaborate closely with individuals and businesses over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition, reaffirming our commitment to providing exceptional service.
